Figure 2. Passive diffusion bags are a common type of equilibrium sampler. The water-filled bag is installed in the monitoring well and then retrieved after the contaminant concentrations in the well and the sampler achieve equilibrium. Groundwater samples are then transferred from the bag to method-appropriate containers for analysis.
