Mr. Gunther Rosen has been an Aquatic Biologist with the U.S. Navy since 1998. In that time he has developed and managed SPAWAR's accredited bioassay laboratory, and overseen research to support the Navy's  environmental compliance and cleanup requirements. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in Aquatic Biology and his Master's degree from Oregon State University in Fisheries Science/Aquaculture. Mr. Rosen has been a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) for 20 years.

Mr. Gunther Rosen is an Aquatic Biologist with the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific in San Diego, California. His primary research interests are in aquatic and sediment ecotoxicology. For the past 20+ years, Gunther has conducted basic and applied research for the Navy primarily in support of improved characterization and management of contaminated discharges and sediments. His research focuses on understanding the bioavailability and toxicity of DoD-relevant contaminants on marine biota, and the development, or demonstration and validation, of technologies to improve environmental quality assessment. He oversees projects across a wide range of related topics including metal and organic contaminant availability, stormwater impacts, ''in situ'' site characterization and remediation, and emerging contaminants including those associated with underwater munitions. Mr. Rosen received a Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1993 and a Master's degree in Aquaculture from Oregon State University in 1998.
 
 
Research interests:
 
1) Advances in storm water sampling/monitoring including use of passive sampling devices and realistic exposure assessments; 2) bioavailability and toxicity of metals in seawater and contaminated sediments; 3) assessment of exposure and effects associated with underwater unexploded ordinance; 4) improved ''in situ'' biological exposure methods for sediments and surface waters; 5) applied research associated with the U.S. Navy's alternative fuel program (e.g. Great Green Fleet); 6) research and development associated with environmental impacts from innovative anti-foulant coatings.
