Dr. Evans is a Principal Research Scientist at Battelle. She has degrees in chemistry and environmental science with focuses on microbiome research and postdoctoral training in bioinformatics. Her research experience has focused on elucidating microbial transformation pathways for organic chemicals in the oil and gas industry, determining microbial-chemical pathways in the human gut microbiome, and finding novel biological and chemical methods for the sustainable mining and metallurgy of important metals. She currently leads efforts to sustainably and economically recover rare earth elements and critical minerals from waste sources and degrade and upcycle plastics to value added products.
